The Sea Promise

As a Sea Scout, I promise to do my best:

  • to guard against water accidents

  • to know the location and proper use of the lifesaving devices on every boat I board

  • to be prepared to render aid to those in need

  • to let those less able come first

...the sea has afforded me the chance to prove my potential when placed on a level playing field. That is because the sea does not care who you are, what your race or gender is, how much wealth or power you have, or even what flag or political system you embrace. The sea treats everyone the same. It can be a harsh mistress for those who dare challenge it. But those who do challenge it have the chance to reap a great reward; learning who they really are.”
— Bill Pinkney, As Long As It Takes

our annual program

  • Marine Safety: Our Sea Scout Ship promotes Marine Safety, especially through a partnership with United States Coast Guard Auxiliary Flotilla 24-09, based in Bowie, Maryland

  • Sailing and Navigation: We promote a high degree of piloting, boat handing, navigation, weather, and marlinspike seamanship skills (which includes learning knots and line handling)

  • Galley Skills: Sea Scouts are expected to plan at least one "long cruise" each year, and need to plan for provisioning and meal preparation.

  • Fellowship and Fun: Overall the life of a Sea Scout is about fellowship and fun. We want to keep our youth engaged in leadership, skills development, and enjoying themselves.
